Willow West Apartments Policy is that the resident has the right to a dignified existence, self-determination, and communication with and access to persons and services inside and outside the facility. The facility must protect and promote the rights of each resident.

Effective April 1, 1988 all residents in long-term care facilities have rights guaranteed to them under Federal and State law.

The facility must promote the exercise of rights for each resident, including any that face barriers (such as communication problems, hearing problems and cognition limits) in the exercise of these rights. A resident, even though determined to be incompetent, should be able to assert these rights based on his or her degree of capability.

The resident has the right to exercise his or her rights as a resident of the facility and as a citizen or resident of the United States.

Exercising rights means that residents have autonomy and choice, to the maximum extent possible, about how they wish to live their everyday lives and receive care, subject to the facility's rules, as long as those rules do not violate a regulatory requirement.

To reinforce Resident Rights to our management and staff, we have displayed 21 beautifully decorated pictures that show the actual wording with a visual image of 21 rights. These beautiful pictures also help educate our residents' families and visitors that come into our facility.
